With MELAcare and Careclave, MELAG offers two innovative solutions for the reprocessing and maintenance of hollow-body dental instruments between treatments. The key difference lies in their application profiles: MELAcare complements existing autoclaves as a compact, specialized solution for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining items such as handpieces, contra-angles, turbines, ultrasonic tips, and prophylaxis handpieces. Careclave, on the other hand, is a globally unique 4-in-1 system solution that combines the entire reprocessing process—cleaning, disinfection, maintenance, and even sterilization—into a single device. Which solution is a better fit depends on the requirements of your dental, oral and maxillofacial, or orthodontic practice—from the daily volume of instruments to the available space in the reprocessing room.
MELAcare: The Perfect Complement to the MELAG Autoclave
MELAcare is particularly well-suited for dental practices that want to fully automatically clean, disinfect, and—depending on the lid used—additionally condition their transmission instruments in a compact footprint. With compact dimensions of 31 × 44 × 38 cm, this reprocessing and maintenance unit is particularly appealing to practitioners modernizing their practices or taking over existing practices who already have an autoclave and wish to specifically supplement their existing processes. A separate autoclave is still required for the subsequent sterilization of critical instruments. Therefore, a total countertop width of at least 85 cm should be planned for both the MELAcare and the autoclave.
Depending on the type of instrument, two specialized lids are available. The MELAcare Blue Lid cleans, disinfects, and maintains up to six handpieces, contra-angles, turbines, or contra-angle heads in just 17 minutes. The Green lid is designed for up to six ZEG tips with torque wrenches, ultrasonic handpieces, Sprayvit nozzles, or prophylaxis handpieces and completes cleaning and disinfection within 14 minutes. MELAcare automatically detects the lid in use and suggests the appropriate program, simplifying operation and supporting a systematic workflow.
Cleaning is performed using ULTRAflow technology. In this process, compressed-air-accelerated, fully demineralized water is passed through the instruments—entirely without process chemicals. The instruments are then thermally disinfected at approximately 95 °C and an A0 value of 3,000. With the Blue lid, oil maintenance of the drive channels in rotating instruments is also performed. Finally, the spray and drive channels are flushed with compressed air, dried, and gently cooled. Collet maintenance can be performed independently of the reprocessing cycle via the integrated maintenance station. Documentation and release are handled directly on the large Smart-Touch display as well as via network or USB.
Thanks to its short cycle times, MELAcare is specifically designed for reprocessing between treatments. Up to 144 instruments can be reprocessed per workday. With the intelligent additional cooling system, they are available for use again just five minutes after the process ends. This makes MELAcare an efficient addition to existing reprocessing infrastructure, especially for practices with a high volume of instruments—particularly when proven individual solutions, fast processing times, and high availability are priorities.
