Data privacy statement MELAconnect
MELAconnect enables customers to use a range of services and offers such as the monitoring of sterilization procedures, also remotely. This data privacy statement pertains to the use of MELAconnect only.
We attach considerable significance to data privacy. The collection and processing of personal data is performed in compliance with all applicable data privacy regulations, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The name and address of the body responsible for data processing

Should you object to the collection, processing and use of your data by MELAG, in accordance with the specifications of this data privacy statement, either in general or in terms of individual measures, you can address your objection to the responsible body.
You can save and print this data privacy statement at any time .
2. Disclosure of data to third persons
As a matter of principle, we only use your personal data for internal purposes. Should we task third persons within the scope of contractual obligations (such as logistics providers) we will submit personal data to these parties only in the scope necessary to perform the corresponding service. Should we outsource certain aspects of the data processing (order processing) we undertake to obtain contractual undertakings from our subcontractor, only to use personal data in accordance with the requirements of the Data Privacy Act, so as to protect the rights of the persons involved. We will not and do not plan to transfer data to persons or locations outside the EU under circumstances other than those specified in figure 2 of this declaration.
3. Installing MELAconnect
MELAconnect is available via third-party sales platforms called app stores (Google Play and Apple App Store). To download MELAconnect, you must first register with the app store and install the app store software. MELAG Medizintechnik GmbH & Co. KG does not have any influence over the collection, processing and use of the personal data gathered in the process of your registration in and downloads from the app store. Responsibility lies solely with the operator of the app store. Please address all inquiries pertaining to this matter to the operator of the respective app store.
4. Necessary authorizations
We require a number of system authorizations for comprehensive use MELAconnect. You will be required to provide the corresponding access rights at the start of or upon first use of the respective function.
Network connection
Network access is required to query data from the device via MELAconnect. MELAconnect will query whether a WLAN connection is available. Internet access is required to enable use of all the functions of the app.
Contacts
Access to the mobile telephone address book is required to add a service technician as a contact in MELAconnect. On the basis of the legal framework, you will provide us with the telephone numbers, addresses, e-mail addresses and names of the corresponding organization in your address book.
Camera
We require access to your system camera to document Seal Checks for MELAG sealing devices or to scan a QR code into the device pairing.
Memory
Malfunction messages issued following program malfunctions and app crashes are stored locally, so that the cause of a malfunction message can be investigated. This file will only be requested if it is required and will not be sent automatically. Your photo memory will also only be accessed if you wish to photograph a Seal Check. Should you wish to generate a local backup, information will be stored in the local device memory.
4.1. Viewing and revoking access permissions
Working in the system settings, you can trace and revoke the authorizations which you have issued. The correct function of MELAconnect requires however that you permit access to certain smartphones or tablet functions and personal data saved on the device.
5. Storage durations and deletion of the used data
All data collected, processed and saved in MELAconnect are subject to special retention periods which can be viewed on www.melag.com. With the exception of the service contact set, no data is saved in MELAconnect itself.
5.1. Deleting your data
The data saved within the scope of the installation will be deleted when you deinstall MELAconnect. If you make a backup in the device memory or with a cloud provider, the data will continue to be saved there and you can work independently to delete them.
6. Data collection for analysis and troubleshooting purposes
6.1. Malfunction analysis (crash reports)
Should a malfunction develop during use of MELAconnect , MELAconnect will transfer anonymized information to MELAG Medizintechnik GmbH & Co. KG. MELAG gathers and evaluates this data to improve MELAconnect. The information collected in this fashion is saved in the app centre. This service is provided by the Microsoft Corporation. Should a malfunction develop, you will be asked whether you wish to send the crash report to MELAG. You will also have the opportunity to specify whether a crash report should always be sent. You can revoke this function at any time.
The following data will be collected within the course of the malfunction analysis:
Operating system (Android or Apple)
Installed version (e.g. Android 4.1)
The exact model designation of the smartphone used
The date and time of the app start
The date and time of the malfunction
The MELAconnect version
Malfunction message
Anonymized malfunction-ID
No personal data will be collected. This means that your personal use behaviour remains anonymous.
6.2. Contact form
When using the contact form, you will be asked to state an e-mail address and a telephone number. This data is collected to make contact with you within the scope of troublehsooting.
When composing free text, make sure that it does not contain any personal information. This applies both to the text and the screen shots which you attach. Every contact form comes to us in the form of an encrypted e-mail and is saved for the duration of the inspection.
7. Cloud backup
You can generate backups and save them with the cloud providers Google Drive and iCloud. For the generation of backups MELAconnect will process the following application data:
Data containing information about connected devices (IP address, device designations, device type, serial number)
Metadata of the documented seal checks (device type, date of seal check, time stamp, location, approval, notes)
Application settings
Contact details of service technician
When composing free text within the app (e.g. comments on Seal Checks or the entry of device designations) and using the camera (e.g. photographs of Seal Check) ensure that you do not enter any personal data.
8. Sharing
MELAconnect enables you to share certain information (e. g. Seal Checks) via the share function of your smartphone using apps which support this function (e.g. e-mail clients, Messenger. When using the parts, ensure that you do not share any personal data (as described in point 7).
9. Changing or updating the Privacy Policy
Further developments to our app or the implementation of new technologies can require alterations to this privacy policy. The data privacy statement is currently valid. The date of validity is stated under the signature.
10. Your rights and questions pertaining to data privacy
You can place questions about your personal data, their origin and recipient and the purpose for which they have been saved. You can also require that incorrect or incomplete data be corrected. You have the right to delete or block your data if its collection, processing or use proves to be impermissible or no longer necessary. You can assert your rights through the MELAG Medizintechnik GmbH & Co. KG data officer.
